S/4HANA 1905 is released with exciting new AI Capability

SAP have just announced several innovations to its Intelligent ERP offering SAP S/4HANA to make it easier for customers to utilise Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics technologies.

The 1905 release of S/4HANA Cloud contains more than 100 out-of-the-box AI and robotic process automation capabilities which will help companies automate more business processes and make accurate predictions for better decision making. The new additions released this month are proof of SAP’s progress towards their 2018 goal to automate 50 percent of manual tasks in the ERP system over the next three years.

Three examples of this new AI capability are as follows:

  • Intelligent accruals management: Automates conversion of purchase order data into posted accruals allowing faster book closing.
  • Defect code proposal: Speeds up quality checks and increases data quality concurrently with automated categorisation of defects.
  • Financial journal entry with robotic process automation: Automates the collection, extraction and validation of financial journal data from e-mails and mass uploads the data into SAP S/4HANA.

With this release SAP S/4HANA solidifies its position as the market-leading intelligent ERP with deep, end-to-end process coverage in eight lines of business across 25 industries. It is the only cloud ERP that supports integrated, hybrid scenarios including cloud, private cloud and on-premise landscapes.

To make it easier for customers to make the right decisions and steer operations in real time, a improved integration of the SAP Analytics Cloud solution and SAP S/4HANA has been launched, bringing planning, analysis and execution together.

What’s new in S/4HANA Cloud

Flexibility remains SAP’s key focus with S/4HANA Cloud. Businesses can take an incremental approach in the move to S/4HANA Cloud, allowing individualised cloud journeys aligned to company priorities. For example, you can selectively apply group reporting, advanced financial close and central procurement in the cloud, while keeping other S/4HANA ERP capabilities in their existing environments.

SAP plans to offer monthly releases of SAP S/4HANA Cloud in 2020, which will provide greater control over the activation of new functions. They also aim to increase their SAP S/4HANA Cloud service-level agreement to 99.9 percent uptime in 2019, to ensure the highest performance levels and business agility.

It’s official, SAP will be running SAP S/4HANA Cloud on Google Cloud Platform from the third quarter of 2019. In the fourth quarter, this will be extended to Alibaba Cloud, China’s largest public cloud services provider, followed by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure which are both planned for 2020.

New SAP Cloud Software Development Kit (SDK) offers new extensibility for SAP Solutions

Developers building extensions for S/HANA Cloud and C/4HANA will be pleased to learn that SAP have a new Cloud SDK which allows greater customisation of business processes and connection between applications. It offers extensibility options for SAP SuccessFactors, C/4HANA solutions and SAP Leonardo AI capabilities. It’s available for Java and JavaScript and enhances productivity by providing a means to manage the handling of APIs and messages when communicating with SAP solutions.

What’s New in C/4HANA

Last years’ hottest announcement, SAP’s new suite of customer experience solutions named C/4HANA, has been strengthened to help close what SAP is calling the ‘Experience Gap’.

“It is time to break down the silos that create a gap when companies believe they are providing a better experience than their customers perceive,” said Alex Atzberger, President, SAP Customer Experience. “We are continuing to add new features to SAP C/4HANA and together with the capabilities of Qualtrics can help companies close this gap and succeed in the Experience Economy.”

Adaire Fox-Martin, member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, Global Customer Operations, addresses this matter in her keynote presentation at the Partner Summit;

SAP have announced the availability of SAP C/4HANA Foundation which will improve developer and system administrator experience in implementing cloud solutions from SAP, making it quicker and easier.

SAP C/4HANA Foundation will be automatically deployed to all customers of SAP C/4HANA completely free of charge, and includes:

  • A cockpit as single-entry point for administrators and developers to view implemented solutions and subscribed applications.
  • A console to authenticate new users and manage user authorisations.
  • Extensibility options running on SAP Cloud Platform Extension Factory.

In addition, SAP have announced plans to evolve and complement these solutions through the delivery of an enterprise-grade customer data platform. They say the customer data platform will initially:

  • Provide core capabilities that unify first-party customer data from online and offline sources in a centralised repository.
  • Improve data quality and resolve identities into a single, enriched customer profile.
  • Make data instantly available to connected SAP and non-SAP applications for real-time activation.

With the SAP Customer Experience LIVE event making is debut alongside SAP’s largest global conference, SAPPHIRE NOW, we expect to hear a lot more from SAP in the Customer Experience (CX) and C/4HANA space in upcoming days.

“In today’s experience economy, companies are searching for new ways to serve and delight their customers,” said Jan Gilg, Senior Vice President and head of SAP S/4HANA. “SAP’s goal is to help companies get there by becoming intelligent enterprises.
