Newly announced collaboration program named ‘Embrace’ involves key cloud providers Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, as well as Global Strategic Service Partners (GSSPs), in customers’ journey to S/4HANA. SAP launched this initiative in order to help businesses accelerate their journey to an intelligent enterprise by leveraging the power of cloud hyperscalers.
The move to SAP S/4HANA in the cloud is planned to come in the form of market-approved journeys, reference architectures and easy access to the underpinning technology services required. By partnering with large scale cloud providers and GSSPs to deliver this program, SAP aims to provide its customers a single blueprint to support their transition and journey toward an intelligent enterprise.
Essentially, Embrace puts the customer’s move to SAP S/4HANA in the cloud in the context of their industry by recommending the platform, software, services and infrastructure from SAP as well as their preferred cloud provider and preferred service partner.
Embrace aims to include the following components:
- Solution: A set of foundational services running on SAP Cloud Platform to enable the integration, composition and extension of SAP systems and third-party applications running in the cloud or on premise.
- Reference architecture: A jointly developed technical blueprint that incorporates the required SAP and hyperscaler components to run the customer’s applications.
- Market-approved journeys: A jointly created and market-approved road map to SAP S/4HANA by industry – created with hyperscalers and GSSPs.
- New SAP MaxAttention services and SAP ActiveAttention services: A newly launched set of services designed to support customers running a cloud or hybrid infrastructure on a hyperscaler.
SAP say the benefits of this will be shorter negotiations, streamlined teaming and faster, risk-managed implementations.
Nick Mulcahy, Zag CEO touches on the exciting announcements regarding S/4HANA;
Zag know from first-hand experience that every successful journey starts with a roadmap, because if you don’t know where you are heading, no way is right. These new market approved journeys could prove to be useful resources with educational value to customers providing an indication of which journey is best for them. It’s a promising model as it recognises the importance and likelihood of third party cloud and service providers in the adoption of S/4HANA.

SAP’s choice of on-premise, cloud, and hybrid scenarios is quite unique. SAP maintains that the future is in the cloud, but they understand that customers want to choose their own pace. They realise that giving customers this choice is the foundation for a trusted, long-term partner relationship.
